This update covers the latest research on the spread of COVID-19 and virus variants, vaccines that protect against the virus, and practices to mitigate risk on school campuses. The supplement addresses major changes in the areas of program tracking, cleaning, classroom space and athletics, as well as smaller updates in other areas. Information is current as of mid-June 2021.

Title information

To develop these recommendations, NBOA engaged engineers and industrial hygienists from Environmental Health & Engineering. They have drawn on scientific expertise as well as interviews with dozens of independent day and boarding schools from across the country. The guidance takes into account a range of school sizes, locations and populations while outlining best practices specific to independent schools.

This comprehensive field guide, which includes a June 2021 update, outlines how independent school leaders can effectively manage their campuses during the COVID-19 pandemic. The 100-page eBook details program tracking strategies (metrics and indicators for assessing, fine tuning and reporting about your school’s response), communication, health screening policies, preventative measures, isolation and quarantine procedures, cleaning and disinfection, ventilation and plumbing, student activities, childcare, campus residences and more. The supplement is 24 pages and provides new chapters on vacccines and virus variants, as well updates on areas of risk management.
